Mark is a general practice partner and the firm’s HR partner. He joined Wise & Co as a trainee in 1987 and became a partner in 1998. Mark’s portfolio of clients is broad ranging from legal practices and owner managed businesses to his specialism in the charity and not for profit sector.
Over the years he’s built up extensive experience of working with schools – both independent and academy status – and other educational organisations. He brings highly comprehensive knowledge of their particular accounting requirements, which his clients find very valuable. Mark has also advised charities at both local and national level as well as many not for profit organisations.
Mark acts for a number of legal practices and therefore has a great deal of experience of Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Accounts Rules. He maintains a practical approach to problem solving and understands the specific issues affecting legal practices.
Outside work Mark enjoys swimming, cycling, going to the cinema, walking and spending with his family and his dog, Alfie.
Steve joined Wise & Co in 1989 where he trained and qualified as a chartered accountant. He’s now a general practice partner as well as the firm’s IT partner.
Steve’s main expertise lies in mergers and acquisitions, property and VAT. He’s been involved with AIM listing flotations, negotiations with Government body joint venture agreements, venture capital fundraising and the planning and negotiation of management buy-ins and buy-outs. He’s also assisted many clients with the sale of their businesses.
Steve frequently provides advice on the implementation of share option schemes as well as strategic positioning for minority shareholders.
Property is of particular interest to Steve and he has advised many investors and developers alike on VAT planning and recovery, as well as how to dovetail that planning with the building schedule to achieve the most efficient financial outcome. Over and above this, Steve acts for many clients of varying sizes operating in the technology field encompassing software and hardware, digital and telecommunications. As IT partner Steve offers his clients advice on business software and technology solutions for the day to day running of their business.
In his spare time, Steve enjoys motorbikes and cars. He also likes going on outward bounds trips, testing his powers of endurance in all sorts of weather!
Stephen is a general practice partner. He joined Wise & Co in the autumn of 1994, where he qualified as a chartered accountant, and became a partner in 2006.
Stephen looks after a broad range of clients with a particular emphasis on providing practical advice to entrepreneurs and due diligence reporting for small companies and businesses.
His other key areas of specialism are individuals and companies working in the media and entertainment sector and those operating in the hospitality and leisure sector. He also acts for a large number of barristers and has a great deal of knowledge and experience of the issues they face and their accounting and taxation requirements.
When he’s not at work, Stephen can be found playing golf with friends or going for a run including the occasional 10k race. He also enjoys football but sadly admits that his playing days are behind him!
Jo joined Wise & Co in 2002 and qualified as a chartered tax adviser in 2005. She became a tax partner in 2018.
Her role has developed over the years with a range of personal, partnership and owner-managed business clients. These days her focus is very much on tax planning and she regularly advises on tax aspects of business restructures, mergers and demergers, research and development claims, implementation of schemes under both the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) and Enterprise Investment Scheme regimes. She has also assisted many clients on the implementation of employee share schemes and has advised them on a succession planning strategy.
In her spare time, Jo enjoys foreign travel and walking her two Weimaraner dogs.
